Kogan launches Agora 4G phone that will cost just £149

Kogan has announced a £149 budget 4G smartphone which it hopes will become the “best value 4G Android smartphone in the world.” The Agora 4G, which has been made in partnership with BenQ, will take on the likes of the Moto G and EE Kestrel to battle it out for best budget smartphone and is available now direct from Kogan itself. 

“I applaud companies like Google releasing devices such as the Nexus 5, which at about £300 is priced better than Samsung’s Galaxy S5 or Apple’s iPhone. But all these phones are still too expensive for many people – especially when they’re also being asked to upgrade every year,” said Kogan’s CEO and founder Ruslan Kogan.

“We’re releasing a quality device that smashes the competition on the price, yet packs all the features consumers expect from a high end smartphone.”

The Agora 4G will have a 5in 1,270×720 IPS screen, making it much larger than the Moto G, but will still weigh just 135g and measure 9mm thick. It will also have an 8-megapixel camera, use a quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A7 processor and come with Android 4.4. KitKat. You’ll get 8GB of storage, too, but this can be expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card. 

It’s certainly an impressive specification for such a cheap phone. We’ve seen plenty of mid-range phones with similar specs that cost almost twice as much as the Agora 4G, but we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on a review sample to see whether it’s better than the Moto G.
