Cyberlink Media Suite 8 review
A great suite of tools for those interested in creating and watching movies, but opt for the Ultra or Centro editions, as the Pro edition offers no real advantages.
As a cohesive media workbench, Media Suite 8 is hard to beat, although it’s hard to work out which version to buy. If you want Blu-ray editing and playback, the Ultra edition (£100) is the best bet; if you only care about DVD support, the Centro edition (£50 is the best bet). We think the Pro edition (£65) sits uneasily between the two and isn’t worth bothering with. This pricing is similar to Roxio’s Creator 2010 suite, which offers a similar set of tools. Both are equally good at movie editing and authoring, so the devil is in the detail. If you are a budding photography enthusiast, then Roxio’s suite, with the dedicated and highly accomplished LightZone photo manipulation application is a must, while movie buffs will prefer Media Suite 8.
