The Sonos Move sees a RARE Cyber Monday deal

Our favourite portable wireless speaker, the Sonos Move, is available for a lowest-ever price of £299 this Cyber Monday

We saw some fantastic Sonos Black Friday deals last week, but the American audio experts held one very special offer back for Cyber Monday.

The Cyber Monday deal in question has seen the price of the Sonos Move slashed from £399 to just £299 on Amazon. The Move has been available for £349 in the past, but rarely receives discounts and this is the cheapest we’ve ever seen it, making this a Cyber Monday deal not to be missed.

The Sonos Move is the top portable option on our best wireless speaker roundup and received a five-star rating and our Best Buy award when we reviewed it back in 2019. It’s not been surpassed since and remains the best-sounding mid-range smart speaker money can buy.

It was the first Sonos speaker to house an internal battery and you’ll get up to ten hours of use per charge, though you can use it indefinitely while plugged into a power source. The internal battery allows you to move it around the house or even take it outside without having to use a mains extension lead, while its IP56 rating for dust and water resistance ensures it’s well protected outdoors should inclement weather arrive to dampen your garden party.

It’s worth noting, however, this is not a compact option for those wanting something they can sling in a bag and take with them wherever they go. At 24cm tall and weighing 3kg, the Move is better viewed as a mobile home speaker rather than an on-the-go audio companion. That said, Bluetooth connectivity does mean you can use it just about anywhere, so long as you don’t mind lugging its hefty frame around.

That Bluetooth connectivity is the perfect complement to the wireless streaming and smart functionality we’ve become so accustomed to from Sonos. There’s support for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls (though you can’t use both interchangeably), in addition to the physical controls located on the crest of the speaker, and the Sonos app provides integrated access to a wide range of streaming services, including key platforms such as Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz.

Another of the Move’s key smart capabilities is the option to network it with other Sonos multiroom speakers or soundbars such as the Sonos One, Sonos Arc or Sonos Beam 2. Linking compatible Sonos products is a breeze and once connected, you can play audio through all of your speakers at once, send different music to your various outputs, and control their volume together or individually as required.

We touched on sound quality above, but the Move’s sonic delivery is undoubtedly its strongest suit. This is in no small part down to its incorporation of Sonos’ Auto Trueplay technology, which tunes the speaker’s frequency response to its environment. There’s no need for any long-winded processes here – the Move uses built-in motion sensors to detect changes in its location and adjust audio accordingly. The result is exceptional audio regardless of your surroundings, though it’s important to point out that the tech only works if you’re streaming over a Wi-Fi connection; while streaming over Bluetooth, the speaker switches to its default sound profile.

In terms of the Move’s sonic output, there’s enough volume to fill large spaces, a robust bass response and oodles of clarity. Wherever it’s positioned, you can guarantee controlled, considered and detailed sound.

Wrapping up his review of the Sonos Move, our Head of Reviews, Jonathan Bray, said: “What Sonos has built here is the most complete, best-sounding smart speaker on the market. It might be pricey but it’s well worth the money – the Sonos Move is simply brilliant.”

It’s still pricey compared to many of the other smart speakers on the market, including the Amazon Echo Studio, which is currently available for just £140 thanks to a healthy Black Friday price drop. But that speaker lacks the portability of the Sonos Move and is no match for it in the audio department, despite supporting 3D spatial audio.

If you’re already part of the Sonos ecosystem and have had your eye on the Sonos Move for a while, now’s the time to buy it. The deal is only due to run until the end of Cyber Monday, so you’ll want to act fast to avoid missing out.

For a whole host of other great deals, head on over to our Black Friday hub. The day itself may have passed, but there are still plenty of great offers available on everything from TVs and laptops to coffee machines and mattresses, so no matter what you’re after, there should be something for you.
